Projects:
Berth 3 - Port Hedland / Australia
WGA designed the Port Hedland Berth 3 Deck Replacement and Fender Upgrade project in Port Hedland for the Pilbara Ports Authority.
Project Description
From an initial 2-year design period, Permadec Pty Ltd were originally chosen as a permanent formwork solution given the durability of the panels and the ease of installation. Permadec supplied over 11 different panel shapes to cover the requirement of the deck shape and the spacing between the existing steel beams. Working with the incumbent engineer and client, Permadec Pty produced a detailed layout plan where the formwork would be used across 8 different sections of the deck. This required a coordinated production and delivery plan to ensure panels arrived at site in the correct order and sequence.
As a first for the client and the TAMS group the feedback, we have had from site is that our formwork was a much easier system to install than their usual material of choice. They were also very impressed with the strength of our panels to hold a 250mm to 300mm deck across the berth during an insitu concrete pour.
Key facts
- Design, manufacture and supply of over 5200m2 of GRP permanent formwork . Panels were designed to suit the spans and shape of the existing Berth 3 deck.
- Coordination of delivery to site of 12 400 containers from the UK to Perth and then on to site at Port Hedland.
- Construction managed in different time windows to suit the active running of the berth and weather conditions.
