Projects:
Abbey Bridge / Evesham, UK
The existing bridge was in need of replacement due to its reduced load bearing capacity.
EMJ supplied 155m2 of GRP Permadec standard panels of varying lengths from 1505mm - 3600mm to carry 260mm of wet concrete. These panels were supported by steel beams for the shorter panels with the longer panels on the bridge approaches being supported from a re-enforced concrete wall at one end and steel beams at the other. EMJ also designed and manufactured approx. 360m2 haunched panels of varying pitch to suit steel reinforcements within the deck. EMJ designed panels to suit varying depths of concrete up to 460mm maximum.
The Permadec panels at either end of each bay incorporated a closed/vertical end to provide shutter to adjoining horizontal panels. Additional single haunched end panels were also designed and manufactured at approx. 3600mm in length, again with varying pitch and concrete loads. The existing bridge was in need of replacement due to its reduced load bearing capacity. EMJ worked closely with the main contractor and consultant to design and manufacture approx. 535m2 of GRP Permadec panels to cope with variance in support structure, concrete depth and spans on this complex bridge. EMJ supplied 155m2 of GRP Permadec standard.
Key facts:
- Deck area 535m2
- Complex design - Requiring non-symmetrical haunched panels to suit deck design / reinforcements
- Installation rate – Full deck installed in 2.5 days with 3 man crew = 212m2 per day
- EMJ sealant system allowed quick installation and reliability
- Limited on site cutting facilitated good fit to complex shapes
